Latest Acquisitions…
03/03/2010 by admin.
Our thanks go to the “Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation” who have sent us copies of legal documents pertaining to the Nantymoel Workmen`s Hall from 1900 to 1902 and also from some donations to the Nantymoel Boys & Girls Club in the 1950`s and 1994…..Looks like we have the basis for a very article on the Workmens Hall (now the Berwyn Centre) and will hopefully be complete for this year`s Journal….Our thanks also to Harry Radcliffe, current Vice Chair, who has donated a copy of the dedication of the Ogmore Valley Miners Memorial from June 1990.This is of course the old “Federation Stone” relocated from it`s original location on the Eastern slope of Mynydd Aber to the area once occupied by the Shafts of the Wyndham Colliery (1865-1983)….

Meeting - 10th Feb 2010
11/02/2010 by admin.
Hi All,
For those unable to attend tonights (short) meeting, you have
missed a real gem of an item donated to the Society…..
Thanks to Trevor John who has been in contact with Mr Peter REDSHAW who
has very kindly sent us a very good image of an Illuminated Address
given to his grandfather, Mr Thomas REDSHAW, M.E. of the Penllwyngwent
and Cwm Fuwch Collieries on his departure from the valley on 13th
February 1913.
Not only is this an excellent piece of artwork, but it also contains the
signatures of the Chairman, Fisher Morgan, the Treasurer, Aaron Thomas
and the members of the committee:
T. Mosley, Edward Hares, William J. Bartlett, Henry Bartlett(?), John J.
Curtis, Herbert G. Madley.
It also 4 corner roundels with images and a top image, of which we only
have seen previously the image of Aber Colliery, the four new views we
haven`t seen previously are:
Top image: Aber House
Top Right Roundel: Penllwyngwent Colliery (looks like a view from the
Aber Colliery)
Bottom Right: Colour image of Cwm Fuwch coal drams (slightly different
angle than our current image and in colour)
Bottom Left: Coal drams enetering and leaving a drift mine…Probably
Penllwyngwent?
I will scan these images and add to our Facebook Group…..

Journal 2010 Advertising……
24/12/2009 by admin.
Hi to all those locals with a business…..
A very successful part of Journal 2009 was the advertising by several local firms at a very low cost (£100 per A4 page, £50 per A5 etc) which includes the design of the advert if not already designed…..
We have limited space in the 2010 Journal and whilst it is still 9 months away from publishing, we have already secured several advertisers for j2010 and with space limited, if you want to take advantage of reaching 500+ individual readers plus the potential of thousands via the Legal lending Libraries, then book your space early to avoid disappointment….
Space will be allocated on a “First Come” basis…..
For more details contact the Hon Secretary, Huw Daniel on…..
huw@ovlhs.co.uk
or via one of our many web sites……

09/12/2009 by admin.
Hi All,
The 10th annual book launch at Ogmore Vale Primary was a fantastic evening with an excellent turnout - despite the atrocious weather….
The report sent to local press and the BBC is available below, but if we have our usual response from the press this is the only place you`ll see this report outside of the valley:-)
