Nantymoel Memorial Clock Tower
The above Memorial Clock Tower was erected in 1955 with the remaining funds from the Wyndham medical Aid Society which was responsible for looking after the medical needs of the Colliers in the Wyndham Colliery with subscriptions taken directly from their wages, and was no longer requirede after the National Health Service came into being in 1948.
Sadly over the years it has fallen somewhat into disrepair with no lights and no longer a working clock. It has also become a convenient gathering place for the area`s youth which is a health and safety hazard for drivers negotiating the roundabout and also for the youths gathering on the steps.
Naturally the Ogmore Valley Community Council are looking to make this area safe again for everyone in the village and have asked several groups to assist in the final proposal for the Clock.
To that end a public meeting was held on the 18th June which we attended as an interested party and it would seem that the consensus of opinion in Nantymoel is to retain the clock if at all possible.
The next stage will be separate meetings with the youths of Nantymoel and Ogmore to hear what suggestions that they have to put forward in the potential renovation of Nantymoel Memorial Clock Tower………More news when we have some……
