Timeline 2001 – Present Day​

From the beginning of the new millennium up the the present day the Ogmore Valley has seen continued to see investment creating a better, more prosperous and healthy future.

07th Jan 2003

Unveiling and Dedication service of the Marble Memorial Plaque erected by the Ogmore Valley Local History Society in the Berwyn Center Nantymoel. In memory of the six men killed on 07th Jan 1940 on Mynydd William Meyrick.

Jul 2003

Aber, Fronwen, Tynewydd and Park Avenue Nursery close their doors for the final time. All schools hold a “Final Open Day” to celebrate their contribution to the education of generations of the valleys children.

Sep 2003

The new Ogmore Vale Primary School opened for it’s first term on the Penllwyngwent site adjacent to the Ogmore Vale Life Center. Paul Booth BA (Hons) N.P.Q.H. is the first Head Teacher.

10th Oct 2003

The Master Clock from the Ogmore Valley Workmen’s Hall & Institute is installed in Ogmore Vale Primary School after being rescued from the Museum of Welsh Life, St. Fagan’s by the Ogmore Valley local History Society.

Jan 2004

The award winning “Upside-Down” housing at Lewistown finally demolished, new housing constructed in it’s place.

14th May 2004

Unveiling and Dedication of Ogmore Valley Miners Memorial, located in Ogmore Vale Primary School.

Journal 2004 Book Launch. Ogmore Vale Primary School.

Ogmore Vale Rugby Club celebrate their 125th anniversary with a dinner at the Ogmore Vale Life centre.

Timeline Plaques erected in Ogmore Vale Primary School. Funded by Coalfields Regeneration Trust.

13th Apr 2005

6th Annual General Meeting of the Ogmore Valley Local History & Heritage Society.

Fronwen School Demolished.

Apr 2005

New Houses built on site of Craigrhiwglyn Board School (1876). Later renamed Aber Boys School, and used as the “Model School” for the early twentieth century Japanese education system.

Fronwen Primary School Demolished. Housing built on former site used bricks from former Fronwen School.

31st Oct 2005

Lottery Heritage Fund award the Society £9,700 to install “Ogmore Valley Archive” in Ogmore Vale Primary School.

6th Annual Book Launch at Ogmore Vale Primary School

5th May 2009

BBC using old MURCO garage at Crossing Area, Ogmore to film scenes for “Framed”.

Brand new and completely revamped Website for the Society launched.
